Introduction

On this page

Search used to be easier to measure. If your pages ranked well on Google, you had a good idea of how visible your brand was. That is no longer enough.

Your buyers no longer only type keywords into Google. They ask ChatGPT which tool to choose, use Perplexity to research their options, and get a shortlist from Gemini or Google AI Overviews before they visit a single website. In many cases, they never reach a traditional search result.

That changes the definition of brand visibility. An AI model may name only a handful of brands in its answer and stop there. Your brand is either part of that answer, or it isn't.

What is Track My Visibility?#

Track My Visibility (TMV) is an AI search visibility platform that helps brands understand, diagnose and improve how they appear in AI-generated answers.

Free AI Visibility Checker: See Where Your Brand Ranks in AI Answers

It measures how often, how prominently and in what context a brand appears in answers generated by large language models (LLMs) and AI search engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. It also traces mentions and citations back to their source pages and turns the data into opportunities to improve your visibility in AI answers.

What you'll find in these docs#

  • Onboard your website: Add your site, choose the prompts and topics you want to track, and add the competitors you want to compare against.
  • Interpret your results: Understand visibility, position, sentiment, citations and source data, and find the real gaps.
  • AI shopping: See how individual products appear in AI recommendations, which competing products appear next to them and which attributes AI models mention.
  • Opportunities to improve: Turn your data into clear opportunities, from missing content and citation gaps to technical issues that limit your AI visibility.
  • Monitoring: See which AI crawlers visit your website, how much traffic AI tools send you and how to query your data from other AI tools.
  • Miscellaneous: Find metric definitions, navigation help, free tools and glossary terms.

What does Track My Visibility track?#

Traditional SEO measures rankings. AI search doesn't have rankings, so Track My Visibility measures four metrics that matter when an AI model writes an answer:

  • Visibility: how often a brand is mentioned across AI answers to tracked prompts.
  • Share of Voice: how much of the conversation a brand owns compared with every other brand in the same category.
  • Sentiment: whether AI models describe a brand positively, neutrally or negatively when they mention it.
  • Position: where a brand appears in an answer when it is mentioned. Being named first carries more weight than being named fifth.

The platform follows a three-step model:

  • Measure: track AI visibility across your prompts and competitors.
  • Diagnose: find the gaps that stop AI models from recommending your brand, such as technical access, on-page content structure and off-page authority signals.
  • Fix: see what to change, with each opportunity linked to specific pages and actions.

Track My Visibility doesn't replace SEO tracking. It extends SEO into the AI layer, where brands are chosen, summarized and recommended.

How Track My Visibility collects data#

Track My Visibility runs your prompts across supported AI platforms and analyzes the answers over time. Instead of tracking keywords, it tracks conversational prompts that reflect how people use AI search:

  • A traditional SEO tool tracks a keyword: "best AI visibility platform"
  • Track My Visibility tracks a conversational prompt: "What are the best platforms for tracking brand visibility in AI search?"

Your prompts run against your chosen AI models on a regular schedule. Each answer is recorded with the brands it named, the order they appeared in, how they were described and the sources that informed it.

Every prompt runs with a country and language attached, because AI models answer differently by market. Because AI models also refer to brands inconsistently, Track My Visibility matches mentions using the brand name variations you set up, such as your full name, abbreviations, product names and common misspellings.

Why Track My Visibility uses UI scraping instead of APIs#

Many AI analytics tools rely only on official APIs to pull AI answers. Track My Visibility collects answers from the AI platforms' web interfaces instead, the same way a person would, for four reasons:

  • Real answers: what an API returns often doesn't match what a person sees in the actual interface.
  • Complete citations: the platform runs its normal web search, so every source it displays is captured.
  • Wider coverage: platforms and features with no public API can still be tracked.
  • Stable tracking: API pricing changes, deprecations and access limits don't affect what Track My Visibility measures.

Answers vary from one day to the next, even for the same question. Track My Visibility tracks patterns over time rather than treating any single answer as the truth.

How Track My Visibility works#

Track My Visibility runs on a cycle. You define the questions, Track My Visibility asks the AI models, and the answers become your data. Then the prompts run again, so you can see what changed.

  • Connect your website: add your domain and the name variations AI models might use for your brand. Track My Visibility analyzes your site to suggest your category, topics and competitors.
  • Add your prompts: add the questions your customers ask AI models, or generate a set based on your website and topics.
  • Let the AI models answer: your prompts run on the major AI models on a schedule, in the country and language you chose.
  • Check where you stand: every answer is recorded, and the results become your visibility, share of voice, sentiment and position.
  • Trace answers back to sources: see which reviews, roundups, forum threads and competitor pages AI models cite in your category, and which of them leave you out.
  • Work on opportunities: get a prioritized list of content to write, sources to earn and technical issues to fix.
  • Watch the results: after you publish content, earn a mention or unblock a crawler, the next prompt runs show whether it worked.

Frequently asked questions#

What is Track My Visibility used for?

Track My Visibility is used to measure how AI models such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews mention a brand when people ask questions about its category. Marketing, SEO and brand teams use it to track AI visibility, compare their brand with competitors and find the sources and content that influence AI answers.

Which AI models does Track My Visibility track?

Track My Visibility tracks answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. It also tracks ChatGPT Shopping results for product visibility.

How is AI visibility tracking different from SEO rank tracking?

SEO rank tracking measures where a page ranks for a keyword in search results. AI visibility tracking measures whether an AI model mentions or recommends your brand in its written answer, where it places your brand and how it describes it. A page can rank well on Google while the brand is missing from AI answers on the same topic.

Does Track My Visibility use AI model APIs?

No. Track My Visibility collects answers from the web interfaces of AI platforms, the same interfaces your customers use. This captures the answers and citations real users see, which can differ from what an API returns.

What is generative engine optimization (GEO)?

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the practice of improving how often and how well AI models mention your brand in their answers. It is also called AI SEO or answer engine optimization (AEO). Track My Visibility supports GEO by measuring your AI visibility and showing the content, source and technical gaps to fix.
