Visibility
On this page
Visibility is the percentage of AI-generated answers to your tracked prompts that mention your brand. It is the main AI visibility metric in the Track My Visibility application, and it shows how consistently AI models such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews include your brand in their answers.
A higher visibility score means your brand appears in a larger share of AI answers. A lower score means AI models answer questions about your category without naming you.
How visibility is calculated#
Each time a prompt runs on one AI model, Track My Visibility records one answer. Visibility is the share of those answers that mention your brand.
For example, if your prompts produce 100 answers across your AI models and your brand is mentioned in 40 of them, your visibility is 40%.
Your overall visibility uses every answer collected from your tracked prompts across the AI models in your account for the selected date range. When you filter by AI model, topic or tag, the same calculation runs on that smaller set of answers.
Where to find visibility#
Visibility appears in several places in the Track My Visibility application:
- Overview: your overall visibility, a chart comparing all tracked brands and a split by AI model.
- Prompts: visibility for each prompt.
- Scoreboard: how your visibility changed over time.
- Performance: visibility for every brand by AI model or topic.

How to interpret your visibility#
Compare it with competitors#
A low number isn't always bad. AI answers often name only four or five brands, so a visibility of 10% can still put you ahead of most of your market. Check how your brand compares with your competitors on the Overview chart before you decide whether your visibility is good or weak.
Look at non-branded prompts#
Branded prompts include your brand name, so AI models almost always mention you in their answers. This can make your overall visibility look higher than it really is.
The Prompt Type Split card on the Overview shows branded and non-branded visibility separately. Non-branded visibility is the number that shows whether AI models recommend your brand to people who don't know it yet.

Look at trends, not single days#
AI answers change from day to day, so a small drop on one day is normal. Look at how your visibility moves over a few weeks before you act on a change.
Break it down#
Filter by AI model, topic or tag to see where your brand is strong and where it's missing. A brand can have high visibility on one AI model and low visibility on another, because each model uses different sources.

Why your visibility score may change#
Visibility can move even when you changed nothing. Common causes, from most to least frequent, include:
- AI models vary their answers from run to run.
- An AI model changed how it searches or which sources it uses.
- A competitor published new content or earned new mentions.
- You added, removed or reworded prompts.
- You changed your brand name variations.
- The AI models in your plan changed, which changes the total number of answers.
- Fewer prompt runs fell inside the date range you selected.
Check this list before you act on a drop in visibility.
Frequently asked questions#
What is AI visibility?
AI visibility is how often AI models mention your brand when they answer questions about your category. Track My Visibility measures it as the percentage of AI answers to your tracked prompts that mention your brand.
How do I check my brand's visibility in ChatGPT?
Open Overview in the Track My Visibility application and look at the AI model table below the visibility chart. It shows your visibility, position and sentiment on ChatGPT and on every other AI model in your account. You can also filter the Prompts page by AI model to see your visibility on ChatGPT for each prompt.
What is a good visibility score?
A good visibility score depends on your category and competitors, because AI answers name only a few brands. Compare your visibility with the brands you track rather than aiming for a fixed number. Being the most visible brand among your competitors matters more than reaching a high percentage.
Why is my visibility high but my brand isn't recommended?
High visibility can come mostly from branded prompts, which name your brand and almost always mention it. Check the Prompt Type Split card for your non-branded visibility, and check Position to see whether AI models name you first or after other brands.
How can I improve my visibility in AI search?
You can improve your visibility in AI search by filling content gaps on your website, earning mentions on the sources AI models cite and making sure AI crawlers can reach your pages. Content gaps, Authority and trust signals and Technical fixes show what to work on for each of these.
