Setting up shopping prompts

Shopping prompts are tracked prompts written as buying questions, so that ChatGPT answers them with product cards. Product data in the Track My Visibility application comes from the ChatGPT Shopping answers to your tracked prompts, so you need shopping prompts before products can appear on your Products page.

There's no separate setup for shopping prompts. You add them in the same way as any other prompt.

How to write a shopping prompt#

Write the question a shopper would ask before buying, and include the product type and the details that matter to them. For example, "What's the best lightweight running shoe under $150 for flat feet?" works better than "running shoes".

Follow these guidelines:

• Name the product category.
• Add a budget, size, use case or feature.
• Ask for a recommendation or comparison, such as "best", "top" or "which should I buy".
• Write one prompt for each product category you sell, rather than one broad prompt for everything.

Examples of shopping prompts#

• "Which robot vacuum is best for pet hair under $400?"
• "What are the best noise-cancelling headphones for long flights?"
• "Which running shoes are best for beginners with wide feet?"
• "What is the best espresso machine for a small kitchen?"

Add shopping prompts in Prompts, the same way as other prompts. See Setting up your prompts.

How to check which prompts show products#

Open Prompts and check the Shopping column. It shows how often each prompt's answers included products.

Prompts with no shopping results won't add products to your Products page. Reword them with clearer buying intent, for example by adding a budget or asking for the best option.
